About

The Physics Honours course is taught with a lot of focus in Mathematical Physics, Classical and Quantum Mechanics, Electronics, Electricity and Magnetism. The programme offers a much broader range of opportunities to students. The advantage of pursuing Physics (Hons.) is that it is logical and principle – based and involves mathematical applications. The Physics Honours course consists of eight papers which are tested over three years. Students who have good mathematical ability may opt for this course.

The present syllabus of Physics Honours course consists of Mathematical Physics, Waves, Geometrical and Physical Optics, Electronics, Classical Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Electrostatics, Electricity and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Theory Quantum Mechanics, Special Theory of Relativity, Atomic Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Solid State Physics and Statistical Mechanics. In practical papers, the students are required to perform various experiments covering different branches of Physics. They are also taught computer programming (FORTRAN or C) along with numerical analysis during the entire course period. The students can pursue their further studies both in applied as well as pure science.
