About

Chemistry Honurs (UG) course deals with the study of chemical changes of matter. It focuses on chemical transformations, recognisation at both macro and microscopic levels. It provides an excellent opportunity to students and learners to explore the chemical universe around us and to understand the logic and principles behind fascinating changes taking place at all levels in the molecular world. The subject demands a sharp analytical mind and a certain amount of curiosity from the learners’ part. The course is divided into three main sections namely : Physical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, but eight papers altogether.

1. Delivered an “Invited Lecture” in the 60th Annual Convention of Chemists (ACC-2023, Centennial Jubilee celebration of ICS) on “Net Zero Goal & Sustainability: Role of Chemical Sciences in Green Energy, Circular Economy and Prosperity of India” held at IIT Delhi, New Delhi on 20th and 21st December, 2023.

2. Delivered an “Invited Lecture” in the 108th Indian Science Congress (International Conference) held at R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur, Maharashtra, India during January 3-7, 2023.

Facilities (Department of Chemistry)

For Students:

  1. Well-Equipped laboratories: Three-well equipped as well as well-maintained laboratories one each for organic, inorganic & physical sections with uninterrupted gas facility, filtering device, etc.
  2. Safety device: The laboratories are equipped with safety devices, such as, fume chamber with high suction pressure, high speed water jet (to tackle chemical spillage).  Chemical wastes produced during laboratory practices are disposed following the standard protocol as prescribed by the college authority.
  3. Distilled water plant: Highly purified water is produced that can be used for various applications, including laboratory use. 
  4. Library Facilities: Access to a well-stocked Central as well as Departmental library with a diverse collection of books.
  5. Instruments: The departmental laboratory is equipped with the following instruments.
    1. UV-VIS spectrophotometer with chiller
    2. Visible spectrophotometer
    3. pH meter (3 such)
    4. Polarimeter (3 such]
    5. Mettler balance (3 such)
    6. Conductivity bridge (3 such)
    7. Potentiometer (3 such)
    8. Tensiometer 
    9. Refrigerator 
    10. Microwave oven 
  6. Computer Labs: Fully equipped computer labs with 10 computers.
  7. Wi-Fi Connectivity: Campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity to enable students to access online resources, e-learning platforms, and educational websites.
  8. Academic Counselling: Guidance and counselling services to help students with academic planning, course selection, career guidance, and personal development.
  9. Student Support Services: Support services such as scholarships, financial aid, etc., to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds have equal opportunities for education. There are opportunities to attend workshops, seminars, conferences, inter-college competition, such as quiz competition, poster presentation, etc.
  10. Extracurricular Activities: Opportunities for participating in extracurricular activities such as sports, cultural events, departmental picnic, and alumni meet to foster holistic development and social interaction.
