Best Practice- A Note
The Department currently follows two best practices: -
The Department encourages research among students. Students’ Seminars are organised every year on varied themes that help students to delve deeper into subjects beyond the syllabus, initiating in them analytical skills, develop confidence and initiate exchange of knowledge with their peers. The seminar papers presented by the students are compiled in the form of e-magazine titled Time &Tide. Time &Tide already has a compilation of over 35 articles by students.
The Department encourages students to present papers both within the college and outside.
Nisith Ranjan Roy Memorial Lecture: The lecture is organised annually in honour of Prof. Nisith Ranjan Roy. Prof. Roy served as a teacher of this institution for more than 20 years up to the year 1968. The library received tremendous boost during his time in the college as an honorary librarian. He left the college in 1968 and joined the Department of History, Calcutta University. Thereafter he became Secretary & Curator, Victoria Memoria. Distinguished teacher and researcher, Prof. Roy has a number of works on various aspects of Indian history and has been widely acclaimed by contemporary historians. The Department celebrates the accomplishment of this great historian by organising special lectures in his honour.
