The Microbiology syllabus is highly challenging and interesting. It is so designed to create real–life working skills that will help the learners to function properly in their future professional and academic lives. Beginning with the study of Biomolecules along with Biophysical Chemistry and Biometry in Paper–I, the syllabus moves on to General Microbiology in Paper–II which deals with the development of Microbiology, Position of microorgranisms in biological world, Stains and Staining techniques, Bacterial Morphology and sub cellular structures and such, thereby giving the students a firm understanding of the subject. Paper–III, in the second year, deals with Cellular and Molecular Biology which included the areas of DNA Replication and Transcription in prokaryotes among others. It also deals with Metabolism and Bioenergetics. Paper–IV consists of Environmental and Food Microbiology and Soil Microbiology and Biogeochemical cycles. In the third year of the course the students deal with Microbial Genetics, Industrial Microbiology and Recombinant DNA Technology in Paper–V while Paper–VI has Medical Microbiology and Virology along with Immunology. Most of these papers have Practical components, with some being completely Practical based.
