Microbiology

The Microbiology syllabus is highly challenging and interesting. It is so designed to create real–life working skills that will help the learners to function properly in their future professional and academic lives. Beginning with the study of Biomolecules along with Biophysical Chemistry and Biometry in Paper–I, the syllabus moves on to General Microbiology in Paper–II which deals with the development of Microbiology, Position of microorgranisms in biological world, Stains and Staining techniques, Bacterial Morphology and sub cellular structures and such, thereby giving the students a firm understanding of the subject. Paper–III, in the second year, deals with Cellular and Molecular Biology which included the areas of DNA Replication and Transcription in prokaryotes among others. It also deals with Metabolism and Bioenergetics. Paper–IV consists of Environmental and Food Microbiology and Soil Microbiology and Biogeochemical cycles. In the third year of the course the students deal with Microbial Genetics, Industrial Microbiology and Recombinant DNA Technology in Paper–V while Paper–VI has Medical Microbiology and Virology along with Immunology. Most of these papers have Practical components, with some being completely Practical based.

          Program Outcome:

PO1- Employment opportunities- B.Sc students can find different industrial jobs or they can go for M.Sc. After completing M.Sc ,the students can go for research work in field of Microbiology, Molecular biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics etc. After clearing NET/SET examination, students can go for Teaching in various colleges.

PO2- Skill enhancement- Students can learn about techniques on molecular biology, microbiology, genetics at nano and micro level. They become introduced with new machines like PCR, Spectrometry, Centrifuge etc.

PO3- Higher research- Basic fundamental concepts of molecules, microbes, environment etc. help the students to pursue future research project on various field of Biology.

          Program Specific Outcome:

PSO1- Thinking capability- During our course students can increase their thinking capability from their own experiments and also from the study of different literatues.

PSO2- Innovative ideas- students can came up with different kinds of innovative ideas as our subject deal with various fields of modern biology.

          Course Outcome:

CO 1- A thorough understanding regarding how someone can develop an industrial strain.

CO 2- Brief description about how to produce different industrially important substances.

CO 3- Idea of chemical nature of microbiological substances, that ultimately help us to manipulate the microorganisms in various ways.

CO 4- Fundamental concepts of different techniques help to innovate new technical ideas.
