Hindi as a subject at the Under Graduate level under the University of Calcutta syllabus is one of the oldest language courses. In this college, the Department become a full–fledged Honours course only recently. Even though it is a young department it boasts of 100% success in last year’s results with a student obtaining first class marks. The Honours syllabus, as introduced by the University in recent years, is designed to help the students to prepare themselves for their careers – keeping in mind the literary side as well as the job–market angle. History of Hindi literature, detailed study of poetry, prose and drama are all included in this compact yet exhaustive syllabus. The students will be able to come in contact with both writers of the past as well as those who are writing now.
