The dedicated faculty members of this department give special emphasis on literature, particularly on the genres of novel, drama, essays, criticism, poetry and short stories. A portion of the syllabus also covers the history of Modern Indian Languages, along with that of Bengali. Other linguistic aspects of the Bengali language like dialects, phonology, morphology and semantics are also taught. The syllabus also includes study on the histories of Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit and English literature. The aim of the department is to create an all–inclusive perspective in the minds of the students so that they develop their own literary vision.

          Program Outcome:

PO 1: Historical and Analytical Study of Bengali Literature: The UG course in Bengali Literature covers a period from approximately 600 AD to current date and gives the students the opportunity to the students to learn not about the Bengali Language and Literature of this period but also give them a socio-cultural idea of both Bengal and Bangladesh during this period. They also come o know about the economic and political situation of this two places during this period. Moreover the students are introduced to the major genres of modern literature and literary criticisms.

PO 2: Literary Sensibility: The main aim of the UG course in Bengali is designed as such that not only the students develop a interest for the literature and language but they also develops a sense of value and becomes a responsible sensitive citizen of the country and earth.

PO 3: Effective Communication: The course aims to develop effective communication skills..

PO 4 Critical Thinking: The course is designed in such a way that if serious, a student can enhance and develop his/her ability for critical thinking.

PO 5 The CBCS Curriculum: The CBCS UG Bengali curriculum has been developed and designed in such a manner that apart from Bengali Language and Literature the students will also develop aesthetic qualities and have a profound knowledge about what’s happening around in the global context.

PO 6 Employment Opportunity: Being a UG course normally after graduation most of the students try to pursue their studies to the Masters level. Some aspiring students prefer to sit for the competitive exams for jobs in the government. Students from this course if proficient in English can also join the call centres. After completion of the PG Level students join schools and colleges for teaching jobs or or can join the field of research. Some of the students also pursue the career of journalism.

CO 1: Thorough knowledge of Bengali language and literature and other inter-disciplinary subjects.

CO 3: A clear idea about Bengali Drama from 19th century to till date.

CO 4: An understanding of Bengali Prose work from nineteenth century to modern age both fiction and non-fiction.

CO 5: Students get a scope to know about the Bengali Literature not only of India but also that of Bangladesh our neighboring country.

CO 6: The CBCS curriculum gives the students to develop their interests in different inter-disciplinary subjects and enhance their skills for future to pursue their careers mainly in the fields of teaching and research works.
